TEHRAN One of the remarkable works displayed at the 8th International Holy Qoran Exhibition, and dazzling the eyes of every visitor is a copy of the holy Qoran in Nasta'liq (a style of calligraphy). It is a remarkable work created by renowned female calligrapher Fariba Maqsoudi.

Maqsoudi is the only Iranian female calligrapher who has written the holy book in Nasta'liq.

Calligraphers have always paid due attention to Nasta'liq as an important style in calligraphy. Many believe that writing the holy Qoran in Nasta'liq is a very difficult task for calligraphy artists.

In an interview with IRNA Maqsoudi elaborated on her selection of Nasta'liq for her latest work, saying, "Nasta'liq is our national style of writing and contrary to certain claims, it is possible to use this style of writing for calligraphy of the holy Qoran."

She said that despite the difficulties of the job, she felt the mercy of the holy Qoran when she created the calligraphy of the divine book.

Maqsoudi underlined that Iranian art can be best promoted when it is embraced by the holy Qoran.

As for the history of calligraphy of the holy Qoran in Nasta'liq, Maqsoudi said that from the time of the Safavid Dynasty till the present time, some 10 calligraphy masters of the holy Qoran wrote the book in Nasta'liq style.

Maqsoudi has so far presented remarkable calligraphy works of the holy Qoran. She was granted the appreciation plaque of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution at the 5th International Holy Qoran Exhibition in 1996.
